3rd Annual Fiesta del Maíz

Sunday Dec 5, 2021

12:00pm - 4:00pm

Humboldt Park Field House

1400 N. Humboldt BLVD

A legacy left by Lolita Lebrón to start Las Fiestas Navideñas en Puerto Rico, with a conscience. It was Lolita's wish that La Fiesta del Maíz be the first Sunday in December.  Initiated in 2001, these festivals were not only to celebrate but also to remind us that Puerto Rico has everything it needs to be self-sustainable. Growing their own food would lessen the reliance on foregn countries & their ability to control the island all while allowing Puerto Ricans to regain control of their own destiny as an island.  In 2018, in Vieques, a friend of Lolita presented Carlos Jimenez Flores with the idea to bring La Fiesta del Maíz to the diaspora. We honor Doña Lolita and her dreams for Puerto Rico & the diaspora by co-hosting the 3rd Annual Fiesta Del Maíz alongside Carlos Jimenez Flores, the founder of Boricua Film Festival. Boricua Film Festival will show Puerto Rican short films during this event, including films directed & produced by el director himself, Carlos!

We are asking all vendors to create an item that is inspired by corn or Lolita's vision for Puerto Rico. Our hope is that doing so will reinforce the legacy Doña Lolita with all of you and those that grace us with their presence on this day.

We will end the festivities with Let's Get Lit, a tree-lighting ceremony in the park!
